Carol Ann Bowyer | Published on 2/23/2026

Dear BPSC supporters,

On behalf of the breast cancer patients at the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center, thank you for your support. There were many happy winners again this year. You know who you are!  To those who donated a raffle prize to those who stopped by and placed their lucky tickets, much appreciation.

My family and I remain humbled by your generosity. Through your kindness and willingness to contribute, please know you have made a difference in the lives of many.

Next year’s event has already been secured for Saturday, February 13. We hope you will once again support our fundraising efforts to help local breast cancer patients.

Thank you and God bless,

The Hope for Strength Breast Cancer Fund/Pocono Foundation partners with Shawnee Mountain Ski Area raising monies to benefit local breast cancer patients

(East Stroudsburg) The 10th Annual Paint the Mountain Pink breast cancer awareness event was hosted by Shawnee Mountain Ski Area on Saturday, February 14, raising more than $6,400 to support local breast cancer patients.

The annual event increases breast cancer awareness and prevention efforts while generating funds for Monroe County breast cancer patients undergoing treatment at the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center, East Stroudsburg, PA.

Held on Valentine’s Day during Presidents’ Weekend, the mountain with their pink-painted slopes, was filled with pink ribbons and red hearts as skiers and visitors donned pink apparel. The first 200 guests who purchased lift tickets received complimentary Paint the Mountain Pink sunglasses courtesy of Shawnee Mountain Ski Area.

A highlight of the day was the raffle featuring more than 40 wrapped Longaberger baskets full of gift cards, certificates to local eateries, hand-knitted items, and numerous other prizes.  Grand Prizes included skis from Blizzard and HEAD, a helmet and goggles from Smith, a snowboard from SIMS, a golf foursome at Woodstone Country Club and Lodge, one-night midweek stays at Shawnee Inn and Skytop Lodge, and tickets to the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins, Lehigh Valley IronPigs, and Reading Fightin Phils just to name a few.

Back by popular demand, a hand-crafted snowboard bench -- designed and donated by members of the Big Pocono Ski Club and supporters of the Fund – was also featured as part of the fundraising efforts.

“We are so grateful to have Shawnee Mountain’s continuous support. This year’s event was a huge success,” said Carol Ann Bowyer, co-founder of the Hope for Strength Breast Cancer Fund. “Due to the generosity of mountain staff, guests and skiers, we have already secured the date for next year’s event -- Saturday, February 13.”

The purpose of the Hope for Strength Breast Cancer Fund is to minimize the financial and emotional impact of a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.  The Fund provides up to $1000 to both male and female breast cancer patients receiving care at the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center to assist with basic living expenses: rent/mortgage, utilities, food/groceries, childcare, and transportation.

Next year’s Paint the Mountain Pink event is scheduled for Saturday. February 13, 2027.
